Abstract

This book was compiled on the basis of lectures given by the author within the period of a few years at the department of Oriental Philosophical and Political Thought at the State Academic University for Humanities. The current situation on the international and domestic stages calls for examination of the close connection between Islam, law and politics. The first chapter demonstrates the continuity of this connection as one of the fundamental specific features of the Islamic creed. The second chapter is devoted to the traditional problem statement in Islamic jurisdiction and its methodology. The third chapter contains the history of the Islamic political thought. The final fourth chapter defines the characteristics of the contemporary political thought. The author, being a famous Iranian scholar and politician, points out the Shia beliefs, juxtaposing them to Sunni Islamic views. The lectures are complemented with the comments allowing to compare the author’s stance with the approach and evaluation methods characteristic of local Islamic studies.
