Abstract

The way the religious questions are posed and saints are depicted in the modern art, including cinema, differs significantly from the way it used to be in the world culture. In the past, depiction of saints was considered a part of religious art, whereas today we see them in painting and cinema, often devoid of their old sainthood.

This book contains the analysis of differences between Western and Iranian films featuring prophets as main characters. It also includes speculations regarding the opportunities opened up for Islamic art and its relatively new branch — cinema.

The book is meant for general audience.
