Abstract

This book represents a revised edition of the well-known “Textbook on the Persian language” (Ivanov, 1999). The new edition presents the material in a better way, many chapters have been replaced, revised and expanded. Each text is followed by a short dictionary, comments and exercises. The book was prepared on the basis of Iranian textbooks for primary and elementary school, Farsi textbooks for foreigners published in Iran, other textbooks on Farsi and related languages. The main feature of this textbook is the focus on modern Persian orthography, modern “tahriri” writing style and international transcription based on the Latin alphabet.

The textbook is meant for the first-year university students studying philology.
