On February 3, the series "Philosophical Thought of the Islamic World" and the first issue of the Journal of Islamic Philosophy "Ishrak" were presented as part of a two-day conference "Islamic Studies: Fact, Method, Interpretation", which took place at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This major event was timed to coincide with the 15th anniversary of cooperation between the Ibn Sina Foundation and the Institute.
The presentation was opened with the welcoming speeches of Hamid Hadavimogaddam and Andrey Smirnov, heads of the Ibn Sina Foundation and the Department of Philosophy of the Islamic World. Andrey Lukashev, research director of the Foundation and senior research associate of the Department of Philosophy of the Islamic World at the Institute of Philosophy, presented different areas of cooperation between the Foundation and the Institutes, which includes publishing books, holding conferences, exhibitions, courses, compiling the electronic library.
The authors of the latest editions of the "Philosophical Thought of the Islamic World" series, which was established back in 2009, also spoke at the presentation. The speakers included T.G. Korneeva, the author of the book "Nasir Khusraw and His Philosophical Views", F.O. Nofal, author of "Essays on the History of Zaidite Thought in the 7th-9th Centuries" and deputy editor-in-chief of the first issue of "Ishrak”.
F.O. Nofal, researcher at the Department of Philosophy of the Islamic World of the RAS Institute of Philosophy, remembered the late Islamic scholar Janis Eshots and mentioned the process of creating the ten-volume Yearbook of Islamic Philosophy "Ishrak". Ishrak will be a continuation of Janis Eshots' work, but it will be published in a different format, twice a year, and will be considered a periodical.
Over the 15 years of cooperation between the Ibn Sina Foundation and the RAS Institute of Philosophy 43 books have been published (excluding reeditions), 21 of them belonging to the series "Philosophical Thought in the Islamic World".
A.V. Smirnov pointed out that in the history of the RAS Institute of Philosophy the books of the Department of Philosophy of the Islamic World were recognized the best book of the Institute in the category "Individual Monograph" three times, beating the other 25 departments of the Institute. These books included two editions from the series "Philosophical Thought in the Islamic World" (A. Lukashev's monograph "A World of Meanings in Few Words: Philosophical Perspectives of Mahmud Shabistari in the Context of the Times" (2021) and I. R. Nasyrov's work "Ibn Khaldun in Ottoman Historiography" (2022)).
Seyyed Nasser Tabai, director of the Sadra publishing house, which published most of the books in the series, spoke on behalf of the publishing house. He briefed the participants on the cooperation with the Foundation and their work on preparation, publication of books on Islamic philosophy, and shared the achievements of the publishing house at the book market and major exhibitions.
At the end of the event academician A.V. Smirnov thanked his colleagues from the Foundation for the productive cooperation and shared his work plans for the nearest future.
