Nowruz celebration took place at the Oriental Cultural Centre of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences

On the 21st of March 2024 an event dedicated to the Iranian New Year (Novruz) took place at the Oriental Cultural Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the assistance of Ibn Sina Foundation.

Senoir speakers greeted the respected guests: Mr. Kazem Jalali, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran; Mr. Alikber Kalabekovich Alikberov, the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences; and Mr. Hamid Hadavimoghaddam, the president of Ibn Sina Foundation, pronounced their speeches. The scientific director of the Foundation, Mr. Andrei Alexandrovich Lukashev, held a presentation dedicated to the activities of Ibn Sina Foundation. Mr. Alex Bertrand Gromov presented his book “Persia-Iran: the XX Century” that had been recently published by “Sadra” Publishing House. Svetlana Alexandrovna Tarasova, the translator of “Scheherazade’s Tales”, a new book of the series “Persian Tales”, spoke about fascinating plots of the book and its philosophic depth. Lana Mejidovna Rawandi-Fadai, the chief of the Oriental Cultural Centre of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, became a presenter of the event.

Besides that, the preview of the first issue of Foundation’s new project “Carpet Aircraft” was screened at the celebration. That issued was specially dedicated to Nowruz: Tatiana Georgievna Korneeva, the candidate of philosophic sciences, an Iranist and the author of the issue, spoke at the event and told about traditions and rites of Nowruz. 

The guests of the event also enjoyed a possibility to visit the exhibition of books published by Ibn Sina Foundation and “Sadra”, as well as the exhibition of miniatures by the Iranian artist Reza Badr al-Sama.

Nowruz at the Oriental Cultural Centre was decorated by the traditional New Year’s table “Haft Sin”. Amir Khatai played a beautiful music on santur, a traditional Iranian musical instrument. At the end of the event a buffet with Iranian sweets and drinks was also held.

During the recent years Ibn Sina Foundation has repeatedly held its events at the Oriental Cultural Centre of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. We express a special gratitude to the chief of this Centre Lana Mejidovna Rawandi-Fadai for her active cooperation in organizing our creative cultural events.
