More amusing Persian tales! News books added to Shekarestan series

21.12.2016

The Shekarestan series keeps expanding: two new books — “Bukhlul’s flea” (3rd edition) and “The magic feather” (4th edition) — have been published.

LiveLib.ru has already written a review on the first one:

The colourful children’s book tells an amusing yet edifying story from the life of the magic Shekarestan country. Once upon a time there was a padishah who “wanted to have everything big:a  big belly, big moustache, a big toothpick. And everything else must also be big”. And one day his vizier told him jokingly that the padishah of the Western land had a bigger palace. The offended padishah demanded that a new palace should be built for him. The vizier understood his gaffe and said that the treasury was empty and the people had no money, but the padishah shouted: “I will have none of that! Either you will collect money from people and build a palace bigger than the palace of the padishah of the Western land, or I will find another vizier!”.

The guards rushed to collect taxes from everyone, taking not only the last money, but even livestock. An old lady who had to give her only chicken, exclaimed in distress: “Let the palace collapse on the padishah’s head, since he oppresses people so much!”. At last the guards stumbled upon Bukhlul, who was sleeping in a corner. They woke him up by kicking and demanded to pay the tax. He said he had nothing, but the guards wouldn’t leave, so Bukhlul checked his empty pockets, found a flea and gave it to the chief guard. When all cows, sheep and donkeys were taken to the padishah, the guards almost forgot about the flea. But when they remembered about it…the padishah regretted his decision to build a new palace.

The Shekarestan series contains amusing Persian tales about the characters of Sugarland, intended for little children. They feature funny illustrations and will be interesting both for children and adults. For children aged 6 and older.
