Ars Islamica – collection of articles dedicated to Stanislav Prozorov

Stanislav Mikhailovich Prozorov is a prominent Russian expert in Islamic studies, one of the founders of the Saint Petersburg school of Russian Academic Islamic studies. Very recently a collection of articles of Russian and foreign researchers, most of whom are peers, colleagues and students of S.M. Prozorov, has been published.

The authors focus on different areas of academic Islamic studies: Islamic historiography and source study, Sufism, methodology of research works on Islamic studies, textology, translations of Islamic sources published in Russian for the first time, Islamic education in Russia, outstanding display of Islamic culture in Muslim countries, including the countries of the former Russian empire and the USSR (Central Asia, Northern Caucasus, Ural and Volga region).

The collection of articles was prepared and issued with the support of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Islamic Culture Research Foundation under the editorship of well-known Russian experts in Islamic studies: the director of the Hermitage Museum, doctor of Historical Sciences, academician M.B. Piotrovskiy, and the deputy director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, candidate of historical sciences A.K. Alikberov.

The book features S.M. Prozorov’s colour photographs from the personal archive, as well as various illustrations regarding Islamic art.
